More than a 5k
The degrading crime of human trafficking is a global, national, and local issue. It’s an Iowa issue. It’s our issue.
Of the 1% trafficking victims identified worldwide, few receive care and 80% are re-victimized if they don’t have a safe place to go.
5k For Freedom is more than just a fun run—it's an opportunity to provide survivors of exploitation a safe place to heal. Upon registration, each participant is given an individual or team fundraising page where they can raise support for their run/walk. Additionally, those who cannot participate in the 5k themselves can partner with a runner by donating to their page.
Together, we can show the survivors in our community that we will do the hard work to enable their healing. We will run, so that she doesn't have to.

La Palma will be selling breakfast burritos and agua frescas from 9am-12pm.
The Outside Scoop is donating the morning's ice cream and giving all money raised on run day to Garden Gate Ranch.
Coffalo Coffee will be selling coffee from 9am-12pm.
Synergy Wellness's IV therapy tent will be open, with 50% of proceeds going to Garden Gate Ranch.
Hy-Vee North Ankeny is providing water to all 5k participants.
Fleet Feet Des Moines is providing running bibs and offering a packet pickup at their downtown store on Friday, October 11 from 3-6pm.
Weather Cancelation Policy
In the event of severe weather conditions (such as lightning, tornadoes, hurricanes, or blizzards), our event staff will monitor the situation and make decisions based on the latest weather information.

If severe weather occurs before the event begins, participants will be informed of any cancellations via email, the event’s official webpage, and all relevant social media channels. However, decisions about cancellations will most likely be made on the day of the event at the race site. We encourage participants to make the best decision for themselves and their families.
